My goal is to actually run Solaris 8/9 as a VM, I've already have a T5140 running Solaris SPARC 11.3 VM server. Unless we know the details, there is nothing we can do to help. Otherwise, it's like you just bought TurboTax for 2016 and they will only support the software if you run it on Windows XP. It makes no sense to stay on 8 for the purpose of supportability ANY software they are running that is currently in support should support at least 10. Probably something that is already running on 8 that would likely run fine on 10 (9 is not 100% compatible but should be OK), but nobody can find the installation media for the OS (if they ever even had any). My guess is OP is trying to keep some legacy thing running that will be coming off older equipment that has to go. But why get a new box to replace the one you just bought if you can run 8 or 9 inside a branded zone on 10 - which will run native on this box AND will still be supported for 8 years AND is available off the current downloads from Oracle? And if you think about it, support isn't an issue here if he's trying to run 8 or 9, because they are both EOL. Solaris 11 supports branded zones, so you could run older versions in containers. The sun4u won't run 11 - it must be sun4v. I am also curious as to what he is trying to run that would require use of 8 or 9 running on bare metal, as there may be other ways to accomplish his goal.Me too.

This would not require the use of the older T5140. I was curious that if he ran Solaris 11 on more modern hardware that it supported, could he still run 8 or 9 inside a zone and accomplish what he needed to do.
